Cornelia Linstead describes the Forteau Nursing Station as it was when she first started work in the 1960s: "The Nursing Station consisted of: four wards - three two bed wards for adults, one ward for obstetrics, with one bed, and one ward for 'peds' with four cribs; one large clinic room, also used as an emergency room; a small waiting area; laundry and furnace room combined; a living room, that was occupied by the RNs and visiting staff only; one kitchen area for the PCAs and other staff members; one public health room; four bedrooms, two... for the nurses, one for an elderly lady that lived with us - and she helped us through many tough times, preventing us from getting into trouble..."
