Patients had to travel for health care - to the Nursing Station in Forteau, or the hospital in St. Anthony. Mary Barney tells us about her first trip: "The first time I went to the Nursing Station in Forteau was January 1949. And I went there to have my first baby. At them times there was no transportation only dog team." After a stay of 9 days with the baby she tells us, "Then you come home on dog team again."
